The Belgian Dubbel may range from brown to very dark in color and boasts a mild hoppy bitterness, devoid of lingering hop flavors. The use of dark candy sugars or crystal malts may impart a strong caramel flavor. Rich and malty with a bit of spicy/phenol and subtle alcoholic traits. Somewhat less fruity than the Belgian Strong Dark Ale, although some dark fruit aromas and flavors may be evident. May be medium to full bodied with expressive carbonation.
