Brown Ales are brewed in England, Belgium and America. While they are all darker in color and composition than pale ales, the tastes and aromas vary from the origin of their brew. Northern English versions tend to take on a nutty, strong and malty taste while those in Southern England are sweeter. American brews are typically drier and have a higher bitterness due to the use of American hops.
